EAST VILLAGE NYC

I began my creative career as an artist, living and working in New York City from 1983 to 1994.

During this time I was represented by Helio Galleries. Helio opened in the early '80's, on St. Mark's Place near Avenue A, a prime location within the exciting East Village Art scene.

During the '80's, the East Village was the epicentre of a creative renaissance that gave rise to many well known, influential artists and musicians: Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Talking Heads, Philip Glass, the Ramones, Patti Smith and many others.

By the '90's the area had become gentrified and the creative focus shifted elsewhere. Helio Galleries moved to upscale SoHo in 1989, then, like many galleries, closed during the recession of 1991.

My final show at Helio took place in February, 1990.
